Udyan Express coaches caught fire on Saturday morning at Majestic railway station.
The train left Mumbai at 8:30 pm and reached Majestic at 5:45 am.
So far, there are no reports of any injuries. The train wasn’t moving and the passengers had already got off.
The fire was first spotted at 7:30 in B-1 & B-2 coaches of the air-conditioned train. Within a few minutes, the railway station was filled with thick smoke as people fled in panic. Railway officials immediately rushed to the station to assess the situation.
Fire officials reached the station at 7:50 in the morning and by 8:40 in the afternoon, the fire was completely doused.
Coach that caught fire was located fifth from engine. The fire started in B-2 first and then spread to the B-1 coaches.
The cause of the fire is believed to have been a short circuit but a final investigation is still on-going.
