Tenth Muharram, Ashura, will be observed on Satuday, July 29, and in view of that rehearsal for Bibi-Ka-Alam elephant procession was taken out by Shia Community people in the old city of Hyderabad on Monday.
The elephant procession started from Bibi ka Alawa and passed through different routes including Shaik Faiz Kaman, Yakutpura, Etebar Chowk, Alijah Kotla, Charminar, Gulzar Houz, Mir Alam Mandibular, Darulshifa, Aza Khana e Zehra and Chaderghat.
Generally, rehearsal is done for the pachyderm to get familiarised with activities, will take place on Yaum e Ashura.
Many people from Shia Community participate in procession and perform matam.
Sai Chetanya, DCP, South Zone said that elephant trial-run was carried to ensure smooth conduct of 10th Muharram procession peacefully.
The Elephant was brought from Maharashtra to carry Bibi Ka Alam on 10th Moharram. The ritual to carry Bibi Ka Alam on the elephant has been going on since 1860, when Afzal Ud Daula, was ruler of Hyderabad.
Hyderabad Muharram is very famous in India and people from different places visit Bibi ka Alawa. Men, women, children,and elders participate in large number to observe Muharram.
