Over 400-years-old Qutub Shahi mosque’s minaret was damaged by lightning strike on Monday night after heavy rain that lashed several parts of Hyderabad.
The mosque is known as Masjid-e-Qutub Shahi Langer Houz located on the way to Golconda Fort developed cracks due to lightening strike. Amplifier, Inverter and other electrical appliances have been ruined.
According to mosque authorities the lightening hit away a minaret resulting damage and developing cracks. The sound and lightning has created panic among people and luckily none reported hurt in the incident.
“One minaret of this mosque has been damaged due to lightening strike. It developed cracks and need immediate repair. Amplifier and electrical system also ruined. It is known as Masjid-e-Qutub Shahi Langer Houz,” said, one of mosque authorities Mohammed Siraj.
The resident recalled the horrifying moments during the rain, “The incident took place around 6:30 and none hurt. Due to this, electronic appliances in surroundings houses also damaged or ruined by the lightening. Everyone has terrified in the locality hearing the sound,’’ recalled, Mohammed Nawaz Ahmed, one of residents.
Kausar Mohiuddin, MLA, AIMIM visited the Masjid-e-Qutub Shahi Langer Houz and had details about the incident. He asked TSWB Chairman Mohammed Masiullah to ensure immediate release an amount to repair the mosque.
“We have inspected the mosque to find out damage caused by lightning strike. None hurt in the incident but minaret developed cracks inside the wall it need immediate repairs,’’ said, MIM, MLA Kasurmohiuddin. He further told that Rs 25 lakh had been sanctioned for the conservation and maintenance of the mosque and the work is yet to start.
