Gujarat’s Junagadh and Navsari badly affected by the heavy rains in last couple of days. The startling videos appearing on Social Media showed the people, cars, cattle, LPG Gas Cylinders and other things washed away in gushing waters.
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a fresh warning of heavy rains in South Gujarat and Saurashtra-Kutch on Sunday. Similarly, the others districts of Gujarat a Saurashtra-Kutch are likely to experience heavy to heavy rainfall for the next three days.
The Junagadh reported to have received over 200 mm of rain in 8 hours on Saturday, which has caused flooding in various places including residential and marketplaces. Visuals appearing on social media showed people facing much inconvenience in gushing water, while some of them have been rescued by volunteers as they were being carried away in currents.
The normal life has completely come to a halt in Navsari District as well, where 276 to 300 mm rainfall was recorded triggering flood like situations. The people were seen wading through knee deep water at many places. The overflowing drains and water logging added to public woes in various parts of the Navsari District.
The State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC) stated that the districts, where heavy rainfall recorded are; Amreli, Valsad, Tapi, Surat, Bharuch, Bhavnagar,Devbhumi Dwarka. Apart from this, the traffic movement between Mumbai-Ahmedabad National Highway disrupted for hours due to rains.
Amith Prakash Yadav, Collector, Navsari, said that, “Water has subsided in almost areas, but in certain localities water logging still persist. Our teams have been pressed into service and dealing with the situation. No loss of life has been reported so far, but one person is reportedly missing,’’
