The Hyderabad twin reservoirs Himayatsagar and Osman Sagar finally reached to full tank level forcing authorities to lift the flood gates and release the excess water.
On Friday two gates of Himathsagar reservoir were lifted by one foot while an inflow into Osmansagar is also reaching to full tank level (FTL). The flood gate of the Osmansgar reservoir is likely to be lifted in a day or two.
The District Administration, GHMC and Police were alerted by the HMWSSB to stay alert for flood in low-laying area in around the Musi River. According to HMWSSB only minimum water was being drawn from the twin reservoirs to meet the drinking water demand for the certain areas of old city and other parts of Hyderabad.
M.Dana Kishore, Managing Director, HMWSSB asked the officials to deploy necessary equipment at inundation localities to drain out water and also be alert while leaving manholes open. They were also instructed to let him know the situation of the either reservoirs.
The police, GHMC and other officials were pressed into services and the people residing in surrounding Musi River and catchment areas have been alerted.
“The reservoir is reaching full tank level due to incessant rain continued for the last two days. So, we have taken all precautionary measures to deal with any untoward incident. The roads leading to the reservoirs have been shut and the people residing in lake surroundings have been alerted. Also, we are assessing the situation on an hourly basis,’’ said, DCP
According to Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) heavy rains likely in North Telangana today and light to moderate rain is expected Hyderabad as well. However, IMD issued red alert for certain district including Mancherial, Nizamabad, Asifabad, Nirmal while the orange alert has been issued for Kamareddy, Peddapalli, Jagtiyal, Adilabad, Karimnagar.
