MANUU to hold Workshop for Urdu Journalist on ‘Countering Disinformation ’

The Department of Mass Communication and Journalism (MCJ), Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MANUU) in collaboration with Department of MCJ, Osmania University (OU) and US Consulate General, Hyderabad is organising a One Day Training Workshop ‘Countering Disinformation for Urdu Journalist on May 09, 2023.

The Inaugural Session will be held at 9.30 am at CPDUMT Auditorium.

According to Prof. Ehtesham Ahmad Khan, Dept of MCJ, Mr. David Moyer, Public Affairs Officer, the United States Consulate General, Hyderabad will be Chief Guest whereas Ms. B. Sumathi, IPS, DIG, Women Safety, Govt of Telangana, Hyderabad is the Guest of Honour and Prof. Syed Ainul Hasan, Vice Chancellor will preside over the inaugural session.

Welcome Address and Introduction of the Guests will be delivered by Prof. Mohammad Fariyad, Dean & Head, School,Dept. of MCJ and vote of thanks by Prof. Ehtesham Ahmad Khan.

Prof. Stevenson Kohir, Project Coordinator and Head, Department of Journalism, OU, Mr. Krishna Sastry Pendyala, Ex.Cyber Forensic Scientist, CFSL, Govt of India, Hyderabad, Ms. Umam Noor Google News Initiative’s Certified Fact Checker & Chief Sub Editor, Jagran New Media,Vishvas News, New Delhi, Mr. Sudhakar Reddy Udumula, Google News Initiative’s Certified Fact Checker &Editor, Investigations, Times of India, Hyderabad and, Mr. M. A. Majid, President, Telangana Urdu Journalists, Hyderabad are the resource persons who will train and provide insights on various aspects pertaining to Countering Disinformation, Visual Content Verification and misinformation.

Earlier, the initial training programme was conducted at Osmania University, Hyderabad. A total of 38 Urdu Journalist and Urdu Journalism students are being trained by eminent Experts under the project (HydFactCheck23) since last 4 months. Prof. Stevenson Kohir, Dean and Head, Department of Journalism, OU is the Project Coordinator. The project supported by US Consulate General.

The objective of the project is to equip journalists on how to prevent fake news and how to prevent disinformation and misinformation from creeping into the mainstream media while they report the news.

Journalists are being trained in various types of disinformation and misinformation verification methods; factcheck tools and techniques; methods for finding open data; the legal aspects of misinformation and disinformation; how to verify or fact-check news or videos or text or images.
