Hyderabad: Mukarram Jah Bahadur laid to rest at Makkah Masjid with state honours

Hyderabad: Mukarram Jah Bahadur, the titular 8th Nizam of Hyderabad was laid to rest at the historical Makkah Masjid with full state honours on Wednesday.

Scores of people from different parts of the place thronged the Chowmahalla Place to pay their homage to Mukarram Jah, who took his last breath in Turkey on Saturday night, at the age of 89.

The funeral procession started around 4 PM from Chowmahalla Palace to the Makkah Masjid amid the huge rush of the public seen attending the Janaza.  Maulana Hafiz Qari Qureshi, the Khateeb of Makkah Masjid, led the funeral prayers after Asar prayers.

Also, the business establishments and educational institutions remained at several places in the old city of Hyderabad. The traders and shopkeepers stay away from their business to mourn over the demise of Mukarram Jah Bahadur, 8th Nizam of Hyderabad.

Born to Prince Azam Jah and Princess Durru Shehvar, the imperial princess of the Ottoman Empire, on October 6, 1933, in France, Mukarram Jah was coronated as Asaf Jah the Eight on April 6, 1967, after the demise of Mir Osman Ali Khan in February 1967.
