The rescue teams including NDRF, Navy and Air Force personnel have been pressed into service in the rescue efforts as many people are feared drowned in the deep water. The Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to visit the Morbi today.
Meanwhile, the Congress Party on Monday sought a probe headed by a retired Supreme Court or Hight Court judge into the incident. Mallikarjun Kharge, president Congress said that the factors of the collapsing bridge must be known, which was reopened just few days back.
“Why were so many people were allowed. There should be a probe into the matter headed by a retired Supreme or Hight Court Judge,’’ Kharge demanded.
The Gujarat Police has filed a case under IPC sections 304 and 308 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) in the bridge collapse incident. It may be mentioned here that bridge was just resumed without safety certificate and local body’s approval.
