The Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) supremo Mayawati said that Uniform Civil Code was made a poll issue by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) just before the State Assembly elections in Gujarat.

She also alleged that BJP was playing divisive role and not being broached about the problems being faced by the people; due to the lack of development and joblessness across the State.

“Unlike Uttar Pradesh and other states, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is making a controversial and divisive issue as a poll tactic in Gujarat. Instead of heeding towards employment and development focuses on the common discussion that the party condition is really poor,’’ Mayawati tweeted.

She reminded that Apex Court has already asked the State Government not to proceed towards Uniform Civil Code. “The Center itself had been asked by the Supreme Court that not to take any decision over Uniform Civil code as it will be submitted it to the 22nd Law Commission, but exactly is going to happen before Gujarat Assembly polls,’’ added, BSP Chief Mayawati.

The Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) indirectly accused the Bhartiya Janta Party (BS) of getting a lot of money from unknown sources through poll bonds. “Beside this, how correct is the use of funds received from unknown sources to the people to influence polls? The latest figures shown that ahead of the General Elections in Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh, donations worth Rs 545 crore have been transferred through secret funding of poll bonds. The Questions is now, where is this money going?,’’ Mayawati raised questioned in another tweet.
